Through a social justice, survivor liberatory lens of advocacy and service, Northwest Victim Services (NVS) provides support and assistance that are directly informed by victims/survivors and community members. NVS looks to structurally shift the seat of power and authority over policy and practices to those impacted by violence. Therefore, with the level of gun violence in the city that disproportionately impacts young people of color in the city, NVS is committed to centering the voices, concerns, and needs of young people by offering space and opportunities for them to lead, find solutions, and become critical thinkers and change agents in their own communities. Further, using a healing-centered framework, NVS considers generational, individual, and collective community traumas as critical factors in our efforts to build community partnerships to address challenges and barriers to building equitable access to community resources.
